Hi, all -
There is too much.
Too much news to sort through. Too many topics to track. Too much spin. Too many ways that technology is reshaping our lives.
But there is also too little.
Too little space to make sense of it all with other people. To ask questions. To meet someone working on the same problem. To find collaborators. To move beyond understanding what's happening and towards figuring out what to do next.
We've been thinking about that gap for a while now.
Over the past few years, we've had the chance to be in conversation with brilliant people working across technology politics. Through the Computer Says Maybe podcast, our events, and conversations with people like you, we've seen the same thing again and again: people are curious, politically switched on, and looking for ways to go deeper.
If you're like us, you want to connect ideas across different areas, learn from people with different expertise, and find others to think and organise with.
So we're building something to make that easier and more engaging.
This fall, we're launching a pilot membership community for people who want to go deeper.
We're building a space with:
regular AMAs with podcast guests and other interesting people
curated conversations that go beyond the headlines
facilitated connections with people who share your interests
self-organised spaces for coordinated action on specific topics
thematic areas to get up to speed on issues you care about
Whether you want to learn and lurk, share and suggest, or find co-conspirators to go the distance, we want this to be a space that feels genuinely useful.
The three-month pilot will cost $30, and we're still figuring out pricing for membership longer term. The fee helps cover the costs of running the community and encourages it to remain an active, engaged space. We never want price to be a barrier for someone that is keen and part of our community - if you want to join but can’t afford to pay, we’ll figure it out with you.
The overall community is still a work in progress. And because we're building it for this community, we want to make sure it's shaped by this community too.
